Founder
Namaste, I'm Ranu, based in Patna, Bihar, India. My journey into social advocacy began in 2017, alongside the start of my college education. From the outset, I was deeply passionate about social change and dedicated to volunteering for various causes, particularly those focused on rights and justice.
It was during my studies on hormonal and physical changes in the human body that I first encountered the topic of menstruation. This initial exposure piqued my curiosity, leading me to conduct further research. I soon discovered inspiring individuals and organizations working tirelessly on Menstrual Hygiene Management and awareness. Over the subsequent years, I seized opportunities to attend workshops, learning in detail about this crucial subject. I often found myself contemplating how such vital information and resources could be effectively disseminated within communities and institutions.
A pivotal moment arrived in October 2021 when I finally had the chance to translate my passion into action. Thanks to Period.org, I was able to host and organize Patna's very first public period product distribution and awareness campaign on the occasion of Period Action Day. The event was a dream come true: it was one of the first public platforms where menstruation was celebrated, empowered, and educated about, rather than shamed or hidden. We distributed over 300 period kits, openly discussed myths and stigmas, and gathered valuable feedback from participants on sticky notes.
This impactful event, however, was just the beginning. I quickly realized the profound need for widespread menstrual awareness and education, which spurred me to launch similar campaigns in schools and communities. As a male advocating for menstrual health, I acknowledge the unique challenges this presents. Yet, I also view it as an immense opportunity to drive meaningful change. Over the past five years, I have spearheaded hundreds of campaigns across schools, communities, and institutions, all with the singular mission of transforming menstruation into a topic of celebration, not shame.
Through this platform, I aim to foster period-friendly communities globally and ensure that essential resources are accessible to everyone. Let's join hands to combat period poverty and stigma, and together, create a #PeriodFriendlyWorld.
